Penn State - A Football Perspective

Thousands of people were directly affected by the malicious actions of former Penn State Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky but that is not justification to continue ruining lives in his name. Newly appointed Head Coach Bill O’Brien along with the rest of the current staff, student body and student athletes are among the millions whom continue to be arbitrarily punished for the actions of a monster. No one can claim that the actions made by Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky and the rest of the Penn State football family can be justified but that does not mean the punishment must live on and continue to mar generations. While most have done nothing but denigrate the name of Penn State football and act indifferent to the great accomplishments the program has made, people need to remember that Penn State football is more than just a football team.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1377097-top-offensive-challenges-manti-teo-will-face-in-second-half-of-season

Obviously for every one of these awards many people can be the right choice but we only have the ability to give one per position. Honorable mentions are included for each award for the players/coaches that were the closest to taking home the award but fell just short.
Heisman Trophy – Nations Top Player: Manti Te’o (Notre Dame)
Honorable Mentions: Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M), Braxton Miller (Ohio State)

NFL Sunday Bets 12/1

I went 5-4 last week thanks to starting the week with a 3-0 start during thanksgiving. I hope to rebound this week with the following picks:

Minnesota Vikings (+9) @ Green Bay Packers
- The Packers got embarrassed last week and though they will look to rebound, 9 points is too much for a division game.

Seattle Seahawks (+3.5) @ Chicago Bears
- The Seahawks' suspensions havent kicked in yet, and that defense is going to make it a long day for Jay Cutler and his atrocious offensive line.

Indianapolis Colts @ Detroit Lions (-6)
- The Lions have been on the short end of the stick all season long but look for Megatron to go off today against the Colts struggling secondary.

San Francisco 49ers (-7) @ St. Louis Rams
- The last time these two teams met, they tied. But look for the 49ers to run through the Rams today.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Denver Broncos (-7)
- No surprise here. Peyton is playing out of his mind and he will continue to do so all the way to the Superbowl.

Cincinnati Bengals (-1) @ San Diego Chargers
- The Bengals are playing really good football and they need to put the Chargers away if they want to stay in the playoff conversation.

This week: 0-0
2012 record: 60-36

College Football Championship Saturday Picks

http://www.ngngsports.com/2012/08/wisconsin-running-back-montee-ball-reportedly-hospitalized-after-being-attacked-by-five-men.html
Note: When I have added plays late to the card and they are now 9-1. If any plays get added they will be tweeted from the @2footballminds twitter which you can follow by looking for Peter Murray on twitter.

Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Wisconsin Badgers (+3.5)
Wisconsin has been playing much better football the last few weeks thanks to Montee Ball running the football well. Nebraska is a very talented team but Wisconsin is the defending champion and should defend their title tonight.

Week 12 NFL Power Rankings

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/11/20/colin-kaepernick-alex-smith/index.html

Note, a team in green is a team that moved up from last week while a team in red moved down while black means they stayed the same.

1.      San Francisco 49ers – Colin Kaepernick looks like he was built for this offense and vice versa, the 49ers are rolling right now and should be the favorite heading into the playoffs.

2.      Houston Texans – Back to back overtime wins keep the Texans atop the AFC and they are only one win away from clinching the division.

3.      Atlanta Falcons – Best record in the NFC and just one win away from clinching at least a share of their division title.

4.      Baltimore Ravens Ray Rice made possibly the play of the year last week with a 30 yard scamper on a fourth and 29 helping the Ravens get to 9-2 on the season.

5.      New England Patriots – Stat of the year on Thanksgiving night; Patriots scored 35 points on 2 minutes and 14 seconds of possession in the second quarter.

6.

College Football Weekend Picks 11/24

http://bigstory.ap.org/tags/kadeem-carey

Note: When I have added plays late to the card and they are now 9-1. If any plays get added they will be tweeted from the @2footballminds twitter which you can follow by looking for Peter Murray on twitter.
Arizona State Sun Devils @ Arizona Wildcats (-2)
Arizona has been playing very well of late thanks to a solid ground game led by running back Ka’Deem Carey. This is a major rivalry game for the folks out west and with Arizona having the home field advantage and a night game I will side with the Wildcats and momentum. Arizona has a potent offense under head coach Rich Rodriguez and we have seen the Sun Devil offense struggle mightily all year to keep up with the high scoring teams of the Pac-12.
